Some emotions are really important in terms of evolution. We need to feel fear so that we run or fight when we are in danger, and disgust for things that smell or taste bad stop us from eating food that would make us ill. If you saw a tiger and weren’t scared, you’d be much less likely to survive than someone who ran away, so these are things that evolved as they keep us alive!

Positive emotions that make us bond with friends and family are just as important in keeping us safe as it’s so much easier to find food and shelter when we work together in a society like we do now.
