      That would be the domestic chicken (though I suspect they don’t really count)! Although it is impossible to be completely sure, the most common wild bird is thought to be an African species called Red-billed quelea. They look a little bit like sparrows with face paint but they do not belong to the same type of birds as sparrows. We think there are about 1.5 billion of these birds. The most common bird in the UK is the Wren, which is surprising because they are not seen as often as other species but this is only because they exist mainly outside cities and do not tend to get close to people.
