      Recent genetic studies have confirmed that humans share 99.6% of their DNA with chimpanzees.

      But then again, we share 90% of our DNA with Cats, and over 50% with bananas! What this shows is that a lot of our DNA is making the basic things in our body work (like building cells, and making the metabolism function).

      Scientists are currently working study our genes so that we can understand more precisely what the 0.4% of genes which are different actually do.
