0 Question: what is the differences between magma and lava (if they are the same why do they have different names)? Keywords: lava, magma, volcano Asked by shamail575 to Claire, Joanna, Kapila, Renata, Suzanne on 18 Jun 2013.
Suzanne Harvey answered on 18 Jun 2013:
As far as I know they’re the same, though a geologist may be able to correct me! Molten rock is called magma when it’s under the earth’s crust, and lava when it erupts out of a volcano, so it’s the same thing in different places.
Claire El Mouden answered on 19 Jun 2013:
I think Suzanne is right….but I’m not a geologist either!
