Cats are very good at surviving very difficult situations, including incredible falls, and that is why people usually say they have 7 lives. Truly they ought to have just one like the rest of us.
Just as an example, my cousin’s cat fell from the 4th floor of the building where they lived about 5 times and it survived them all (though it broke all 4 legs in one of the times and gave my poor cousin some good frights). He died a very old cat that hopefully learnt with time that jumping from windows is not such a good idea!

Cats are said to have many lives, I think because they survive things that humans never would. This is partly because they are smaller than we are, but also because they are better adapted for jumping up and down from heights.

I remember my cat once was sitting on the windowsill outside my bedroom, and I did not realise, and I opened the window without drawing the curtain first and pushed him off! He fell down to the pavement below…if he was human, he’d have hurt himself really badly, but he just got up and went in the catflap…he was very upset with me for a few days though!
