      Humans and chimpanzees shared a common ancestor, probably about 6 million years ago, and with orangutans about 14 million years ago. The common ancestor all apes lived about 20 million years ago.

      Therefore chimpanzees are more closely related to humans than they are to gorillas or orangutans.
