My answer will depend a bit on what you count as “researched”. For instance, one of the things I regularly do is bird ringing (I can tell you more about this if you want) and for that I’ve handled hundreds of bird species from sparrows to falcons (of which my favourite are little owls and kingfishers). Although bird ringing contributes to bird research in general I wouldn’t really say I have done research on those species. So I’ve trully done research on seven or eight species so far and those were all seabirds, most of them belonging to a group called Procellariiformes. This group includes the biggest (albatrosses) and the smallest (storm petrels) seabirds on earth and I find them absolutely fascinating. I also enjoyed working with a species of penguin (Gentoo penguin – though I only got to see their scats) and with Little Terns (look out for them when you go to the beach, they are very beautiful birds).
