I always work with two others – a volunteer to record monkey sounds while I take notes on their behaviour, and a local field assistant who knows all the baboons by name and never gets lost in the forest. We couldn’t do without our field assistants, even after months of trekking in the same forest it is still really easy to get lost!

We are also part of a bigger team at the field station, but everyone has their own research project – some people work with the chimps, some baboons, and some people study the trees and plants in the area instead of the animals. It’s great to live and work with people doing all kinds of interesting research projects!

It depends what I’m doing. One thing I like about bring a scientist is that some things you do alone, and some as a team. I probably spend about half my time working on my own.

Although sometimes scientists might do work on their own, their work is always part of a team. I don’t think it is possible to do science alone.
