Great question! If humans died out then I think that the rest of the natural world would get along just fine. One of the amazing things about nature is how each species depends on lots of other species in an ecosystem -without interference from humans (e.g. causing pollution, habitat destruction, climate change etc) those ecosystems can potentially survive for ever. Hopefully though, humans will not die out (I’m not planning to die out any time soon!), so our great challenge is to learn how to live alongside the rest of nature without destroying it. Your generation quite literally can save the planet -I hope that by learning about nature you are understanding how important it is, and how vital it is that humans work together to protect the environment.

My money would be on lobsters – I recently found out that they don’t age, and there has never been a documented case of a lobster dying from natural causes! With enough food and nothing trying to kill them, they could live forever…
