• Question: Is it true that blue birds cant acctually see the colour blue?

      No it is not! That seems to be a story that someone thought it would be fun to spread around to see how far it would go and it did go pretty far! For a few minutes it left me wondering as well when I first heard about it but it is completely false. Birds have amazing colour vision, they can distinguish many more colours than humans (and mammals in general)and they even see UV light as well. It’s thanks to that that many birds are so colourful and beautiful! Males are usually bigger, more colourful and beautiful than females (this applies to birds only :)). Having beautiful bright feathers is a way of telling other birds that they are healthy and strong which useful to attract females or to put off other males.
