      In some ways, yes!

If you’ve ever watched monkeys in zoos or on documentaries, have you noticed how they live in groups and make a lot of sound as they do things like grooming each other, or eating? It might look like this doesn’t really mean anything, but research has shown that chimpanzees and baboons are in control of the sounds they make, and can even lie to each other! They sometimes pretend they have no food and keep it out of sight so they don’t have to share, and young monkeys scream more in a fight when there’s an adult nearby to help them – often getting the monkey they are fighting with into trouble, just like young children can exaggerate when they get adults involved in arguments! Living in groups like humans do, monkeys do a lot of the same things we do with our friends and families.
