Question: Could somebody teach an animal to play video games well? Would they associate each button with an on-screen action?

Good one! People have taught chimps some simple video games such as matching or memory tasks and they seem to be pretty good at it (check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyJomdyjyvM). Note that this was a touch screen so there was no need to associate a button to an action on the screen but I believe they would get that idea too. I do doubt animals could go much beyond this sort of simple game though but this is already quite impressive!
